WATCH THIS VIDEO!
I was originally looking for a completely different video in regards to a completely different topic; however, this clip caught my eye and I quickly decided to put my original topic on the back burner.
That YouTube clip just showed you the future of television, well a glimpse of it at least, since I don’t think its for sale just yet, but will most likely make an appearance at the next big Tech Convention. Human beings living in the 21st century are living with incredible technology that is taking society into advanced realms of new-aged technology. That YouTube clip is a prime example, of such a realm.
Did you ever sit down and imagine with your friends what the future would be like when you got older? You probably came up with this idea along with flying cars and public teleporting stations. Well guess what?! You got one idea right. The mini TV that can be attached to your glasses actually exists. This company based in Tokyo, Japan built this contraption in 2007….two years ago! How behind the times is the Western world? Regardless, of its time of creation, this advancement in technology can only mean one thing.
Consumption.
It’s just another opportunity to get the average consumer to consume just a little bit more during their every day routines. (because we aren’t bombarded enough!). Then it’ll only be a matter of time, before we’re faced with the choice of which portable television provider to use, of course depending on which channels you watch the most. My main
concern however, is when did our culture and society become so immersed in television? When did it become such a vital life line that we have to carry it with us wherever we go, like our own personal oxygen tank?
It also raises other questions like: How reliable will this travelling television be? Will it be through some sort of “radio” frequency or will it be a program you download to your computer and then upload it to the device itself. Of course these details are still up in the air, but I’ll be curious to see what comes up.
I also believe this mini television attached to a pair of glasses is a step towards eliminating boredom wherever you go. I’m all for not being bored, but usually when I commute ( or used to thank to the OC Transpo Strike) I listen to some music or read a book. But this has become part of the mundane, apparently. The way of the future is to watch TV while you walk to your destination. Reading a book is so passé!
Dr. Strangelove mentioned in class how soon enough our children( if we decide to have any) will most likely have a digital recorder attached to them somehow, so that they may broadcast themselves whenever they like.
Well, Dr. Strangelove this idea of yours is slowly becoming a reality, I’m sure it won’t be long before such an idea surfaces in the mind of techie working in the bowels of a mega corporation like Sony or Panasonic.
